Todd Brooks-Marling || Dev Log Four || Preparing for Next Semester's Work


    Introduction

In this devlog I will be discussing how I'm currently preparing with my team to enter the production phase for our game "Auto Shipping Solutions".

    Completed:

Research: Before making our team, everyone researched different topics in-depth, before creating a game concept. After everyone came up with their game concepts we then selected the one we felt had the most potential and interesting gameplay.

Pitch: Our team then took the idea and fleshed it out to make a game proposal pitch. This got the basic concept out and let us get feedback from our peers on directions we can move towards.

Team-Charter: We then got together as a team and made documentation representing our goals, team dynamic, and back-up plans.

Game Design Document: At this point we began fleshing our game out more and actually defining the specifics. We analysed the market and determined the necessities needed to address our design challenge at hand. We then went to listing all of the features, when they should be implemented, and solidifying our gameplay loop.

Risk Analysis Report: We then went to create our risk analysis report which designated what we'll do if something goes wrong with the plan or an issue arises with a team member.

    Work In Progress:

Project Plan: By completing this we'll be able to make a more structured plan and designate the stages in which we intend to implement our features.

Proof of Concept: This will allow us to confirm that our game is interesting enough, and has enough depth to move forward with. We will be doing this by making an animated presentation going over the first days gameplay.

Schedule: Finally we can schedule our work and determine who does what and when it should be completed by. This should give time to let everyone try and finish their tasks, while still giving time to accommodate for any issues that may arise.

    Overall:

I feel as if this semester has left our group thoroughly prepared to move forward with the production phase, and I'm happy with the current state of things.

Hello Todd!

It is very satisfying laying out all the work that you have completed, and works in progress as a sort of task list since it shows progress in a great direction! The proof of concept looked incredible with power point and I can't wait to see how that will translate in-game. Also, I like how you are taking into consideration any unanticipated issues that may arise in the schedule since there's always something that comes up! It's better to be prepared than not and it sounds like your group has it figured out with the scheduling of tasks.

Making an animated presentation to show off the concept you have for the gameplay of your first day is an interesting idea, although I'd be careful, since the point is to be able to show off what the game is like to play, and not what it's like to look at. Good luck going into the next semester!
